Gun laws in Venezuela. Doing nothing but aiding criminals and the government.

Not surprisingly, the Venezuelan progressive utopia lauded by such political/social luminaries such as Sean Penn and Danny Glover is coming to the typical progressive/socialist demise.  While this is terrible for the people of Venezuela, what is worse is that they are left defenseless by the onerous gun laws that were supposed to help clean up crime.  Now, those people that are tired and fed up with rationed goods, useless currency and denial of basic civil liberties are at the hands of the only groups left with firepower-the criminals and the government.  When the people of any nation are complicit in giving up their rights, freedoms and responsibilities, in this case the responsibility to always be prepared to defend yourself and your family, the end result is never going to be in your favor.  The type of thinking that causes people to neglect their basic responsibility to protect themselves is the same type of wishful thinking that believes in the inherent goodness of man and the civil government.  If we, as Americans, remain asleep while our rights to protect ourselves are slowly eroded, then we too will have no one to blame but ourselves.
