Military Budgets and Global Warming
While there will always be legitimate discussion that needs to take place concerning where budget priorities fall, when pet projects take the place of legitimate expenses and then those expenses are utilized as a wedge to drive down future budgets, then we need to take a look at how we are spending our money more closely. Take this article on global warming activism by the DoD. Is this really where the taxpayer wants to spend money that we allocate in defense of the country? What we are talking about are these ridiculously overpriced "green" projects that are a result of poor strategic decisions being made at the highest level of our government. Fuel is plentiful in this world(yes, even the supposed fossil fuels) and is found in great quantities in our own nation should we ever get around to actually utilizing them. Because our political leaders are driving policy based on overhyped science we are actually wasting money that could be better utilized to provide actual "defense" of the nation, not just pad the wallets of those companies benefitting from this egregious crony capitalism. So when the Secretary of Defense tells us again that we need to shave the DoD budget because of high personnel costs, know that at the same time he is promoting this wasteful spending to combat "global warming" he could be fighting against actual enemies wielding real weapons.
