As for political gain, we see the way in which the IRS systematically delayed and denied requests for Tea Party and other right wing leaning organizations to receive approval to operate under IRS rules as tax free organizations. Anyone without an agenda already knows that whether through directive or influence, the IRS was acting on orders from the highest levels in its organization to deny these groups approval for tax free status prior to the 2012 elections. Additionally, these groups were hit with all sorts of onerous requirements including detailed lists of donor information.
As for personal attack, the chilling thing about the firing of Mozilla's CEO is that it was based on an IRS leak to a gay advocacy group. So, what we have here is a Federal government that released confidential information to an advocacy group which six years later led to the resignation of an individual from the place of employment. Is there any doubt why Tea Party groups and others opposed to the government running roughshod are concerned about donor information and other potential personal information being misused?
In the end, this is not about gay rights, Mozilla, or even any individual Tea Party group, it is merely about intimidation; intimidating you to keep quiet, intimidating you to not support those groups you believe in, and intimidating you to give in to totalitarianism. I can't promise you that it is going to be easy and if the CEO of Mozilla can be intimidated, then so can the rest of us. But remember, you are not alone....and if we stand together and refuse to be intimidated, then in the end, we have already won because we have remained true to ourselves and our beliefs.
