Jizya for Hobby Lobby

From Wikipedia comes the following definition of Jizya.
"Under Islamic law, jizya or jizyah (Arabic: جزيةǧizyah IPA: [dʒizja]; Ottoman Turkish: cizye;) is a per capita tax levied on a section of an Islamic state's non-Muslim citizens, who meet certain criteria. The tax is and was to be levied on able-bodied adult males of military age and affording power(but with specific exemptions). From the point of view of the Muslim rulers, jizya was a material proof of the non-Muslims' acceptance of subjection to the state and its laws, "just as for the inhabitants it was a concrete continuation of the taxes paid to earlier regimes." In return, non-Muslim citizens were permitted to practice their faith, to enjoy a measure of communal autonomy, to be entitled to the Muslim state's protection from outside aggression, and to be exempted from military service and the zakat taxes obligatory upon Muslim citizens."

Instead of Islamic Law, Hobby Lobby and others with religious convictions as to what should and should not be covered in healthcare plans are being confronted by the Secular State demanding its rightful tax from the people to acknowledge acceptance of subjection to the state and its laws(With absolutely no consideration of your 1st Amendment rights).  In return, I guess the Secular State will, in theory, provide permission to practice faith and enjoy a measure of communal autonomy.  Well, maybe you can worship the way you want, but actually practice your faith, we'll have to see what that means.

So what if Hobby Lobby refuses to bow down to the State in this regard.  Well, the Justices had that answer covered for them suggesting that instead of paying the "penalty"(or jizya) for providing inferior healthcare(i.e. abortion inducing drugs) they could just completely drop healthcare for their employees and throw them into a federal exchange(i.e.  this was our plan all along to collapse the private market and get everyone on a single-payer system).  At least someone has the guts to say these things on the record because we know our President will never admit to such things in public.

Now we get down to the real issue.  It isn't about women's rights, the poor having access to unfettered contraception or anything else, it is just about Hobby Lobby(and other companies that have an issue with the ridiculous stuff covered by Federal mandated standards in healthcare plans like men being covered for maternity care) shutting up, dumping their employees from company provided healthcare(which by the way they also feel religiously compelled to offer) and pushing everyone into Federal healthcare exchanges.

When the State believes that rights and laws flow from them to the people instead of merely encapsulating rights divinely given by God then it is only a matter of time before they will want devotion and worship redirected from God to them.  But don't worry, they will let you practice your faith, just trust them.

  2. Dear Anonymous,
Christian Sharia law would only be applicable if the STATE was forcing someone to do something. In this case, it is a private company that has a labor contract with individuals that specifies what the company will provide(wages and other benefits) and what the employee will provide(labor). In this case, I would recommend for you to look at how Hobby Lobby treats its workers and see if, on the whole, it is not one of the most generous employees out there. It is only when the STATE steps in to tell a company what they should and should not provide employees that this entire issue has come up. If you think about it, there was never an issue with birth control or anything else, for that matter, between Hobby Lobby employees and the company UNTIL Obamacare placed new expanded requirements in place. You can rest assured Anonymous that this country is far and away nowhere on the trajectory of Christian Sharia Law so I think you can sleep soundly. No one is coming by to force your conversion tonight!
